Trust & coherence — USC Marshall School of Business

When a message is easy to follow and internally consistent, people judge it as more trustworthy — and more likely to act on it.

Decades of consumer psychology research show that the subjective ease of processing information — what researchers call “processing fluency” — directly shapes judgments of trust, credibility, and truth. A business that communicates clearly and coherently is not just easier to understand; it is experienced as more credible before a buyer has consciously evaluated the evidence.

Next-step clarity — Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University

When a buyer is uncertain, a single clear next step produces significantly more action than a menu of competing options.

A meta-analysis of 99 studies found that choice overload is strongest when buyers don’t yet have a clear preference and the decision feels difficult. For a referred or warm prospect still deciding whether a business is right for them, one proportionate next step consistently outperforms multiple competing asks.

Transform Interest into Meaningful Action

What Happens in a Conversation

  • A Right Fit Conversation is a working session, not a generic sales call.
  • We use the time to understand:
  • What kind of interest the business already receives.
  • Where right-fit people seem to slow down.
  • What explanations the owner keeps repeating.
  • What buyers may need to recognize before they can act.
  • Whether there is a useful next step.
  • It is meant to see the condition clearly.

What We Look For

In the conversation, we look for the friction points that may be interrupting movement from interest to action.

These may include:

Message friction: people do not quickly understand what the business does or why it matters.

Trust friction: people need more confidence before they move.

Fit friction: the right people are not recognizing themselves, and poor-fit people are not self-selecting out.

Pathway friction: the next step is unclear, buried, or too large.

Bottleneck friction: too much value still depends on personally explaining it.

Together, these lenses are what the Fit & Friction Diagnostic looks at. The diagnostic can be named and described here as part of the conversation — it is the method, not a separate product to buy.

This May be for You If

  • People grasp your value after a conversation, but not before.
  • Referrals arrive warm but still need explanation.
  • You are repeating the same answers.
  • Your site informs people but does not build decision confidence.
  • You want the right people to recognize fit sooner.
  • You want poor-fit prospects to self-select out earlier.
  • You suspect more marketing will not fix the real friction.

This May Not Be For You If

  • You only want more traffic without examining the buyer pathway.
  • You want generic content production.
  • You want someone to make things look better without clarifying what buyers need to understand.
  • You are looking for hype, shortcuts, or pressure tactics.
  • You are not ready to look at where effort is not creating movement.

What You Leave With

You should leave the conversation with a clearer sense of where interest may be slowing down, what the right people may need to recognize, and whether Lucid Impact can help.

Sometimes the next step is a website or buyer pathway project. Sometimes it is AI or workflow support. Sometimes it is consulting and coaching to clarify owner knowledge and offer structure.

The path depends on the friction.

What the Diagnostic Surfaces

A Fit & Friction Diagnostic looks at a visible business surface — often the primary website page — and surfaces where interested, right-fit buyers may be slowing down before they reach out.

The findings are not only about design or traffic.

They are about what the page may be leaving the owner to explain on every call.

That is what the diagnostic does: it reads the business through the page and shows where the next step may be getting hard to recognize.
